Gardiner Richardson today launched a major consultation on alcohol across the region on behalf of Balance, the alcohol office for the North East.
Teams will be visiting the 12 council areas across the region collecting individual’s views on alcohol over the next two weeks – looking particularly at the affordability and availability of alcohol. The consultation is in response to government plans to hold a national review to decide how to tackle the problems caused by the excessive consumption of cheap alcohol.
The media launch, on Grainger Street, Newcastle this morning was attended by Tyne Tees, Metro FM, BBC Radio Newcastle, Real Radio and The Northern Echo. Front line staff including a police officer, fireman, taxi driver and nurse relaying stories of how they are affected by the second hand causes of alcohol on a daily basis.
Look out for the specially branded ‘I’ve got a drink problem’ camper van visiting high streets and workplaces across the region in August.
