New blue bin recycling scheme launches
The coming weeks see the launch of Gateshead and Sunderland Council’s new blue bin kerbside recycling scheme. Hundreds of thousands of residents across the two boroughs will receive their new blue bin – which replaces the current black plastic box used for recycling.
GR worked with the two councils to raise awareness and help residents understand how easy it now is to recycle – the bins allow paper, bottles, cardboard, plastic and tin can all be recycled in one place.
The campaign involved initial press and outdoor advertising, as well as a door drop to raise awareness that the new bins are coming. The second phase involved another door drop to explain how to use the new bin, and what can be recycled in it. The campaign was supplemented by the use of digital ad vans, ambient and online media, leaflets, roadshows and the production of bin-top labels.
