Tiny figures get national coverage

A carefully crafted PR opportunity has gained the Extraordinary Measures exhibition at Belsay Hall, Northumberland more national media coverage, and boosted visitor numbers in its final weeks.

The contemporary art exhibition, which has been running from May and is due to finish on 26 September, features pictures of tiny day trippers, photographed by street artist Slinkachu as part of his installation ‘A Great Day Out’.

Originally on display within the beautiful grounds of Belsay last summer, large-scale photographs taken by Slinkachu himself then showed where the miniature population once lived.

Slinkachu’s little people proved so popular that the eagle eyed visitors who were lucky enough to spot the ten original versions around Belsay took them home with them as a memento of a great day out.

In late August English Heritage launched a ‘no grudge amnesty’ to find out where these tiny people now live. The story captivated the national media who publicised the story, including The Guardian, BBC Radio 2, 4 and 5 and PA News. This strong finish to the summer season has now seen visitor numbers to the exhibition topping 55,000.
