Why Let Drink Decide? was the message asked by Balance, the alcohol office for the North East in support of a national campaign by the Department for Children, Schools and Families highlighting the dangers facing young people when they drink excessively.
Unwanted pregnancy, drug taking and violence are just a handful of the dangers young people risk whilst under the influence of alcohol and unable to fully use their judgement.
Balance supported the national campaign, which aired on TV, radio and in press adverts by talking to parents of children aged between eight and 12 during half term.
Gardiner Richardson co-ordinated the campaign, which saw on street teams visiting shopping centres in Cramlington, Peterlee, Hartlepool, Sunderland and Gateshead handing out information and chatting to parents, encouraging them to talk to their children about creating a responsible relationship with alcohol. Almost 10,000 booklets were distributed and 1,000 in depth conversations took place during the week long campaign.
